Reader TDF Tips – add your tips to the site!

by Tim M

Today I’m really excited to announce a new function on the tourdefrancetips.com website: a post submission form for tdftips readers to add their very own tips and tricks for people heading over to France! Awesome.

Currently, the form is in v1, which means that incremental changes will be made on an ongoing basis as I find things that need fixing, or you guys tell me something needs improving.

So, what does the form do?

  1. The form lets you submit a tip/trick/pitfall (thing to avoid), which will be posted on tourdefrancetips.com to a special category.
  2. You can submit hotels, motels, bars, cafes, general sightseeing things, towns, rides, or any other thing you think will be useful. If you have an “other” choice, you can add your own option. We may accept it as a standard option, or may not. If we do, it’ll appear so everyone can use it.
  3. You pinpoint this on a Google Map (all integrated, and tied to the address), so that others can easily see where it is.
  4. You can add a rating for the place.
  5. You can upload 3 photos.
  6. People will be able to make a comment on your post, as well as rating it, and uploading their own photos.
  7. You will soon be able to login with Facebook and Twitter. If you are logged in with Facebook, Twitter or a tdftips.com account, your post will be auto-published.
  8. You will soon be able to post to Facebook and Twitter (your own accounts).

“How will this help me?”
There’s a saying: “no one is as smart as all of us”; so I want to tap into the knowledge that all you guys have. This is a way for you to pool your knowledge to help everyone else find the best places, avoid the pitfalls and have an awesome time in France.

By sharing your knowledge, you strengthen the resource, and encourage others to do likewise. You never know, you might find an obscure tip for that little town you want to visit!

“What Will You do with this Information, Tim?”
Well, to be perfectly honest: I don’t know yet.

First up, your private data is never shared!

The data collected (no personal data, just metadata for places etc) will initially form an awesome resource for those heading to France.

I think it will augment the Cycling Through France ebook I wrote very nicely. Obviously in that guide I could not cover all the places to visit, rides to do, and things to watch out for (though I think I did a reasonable job!). So, this facility will allow you all to share your knowledge of France, so we can all benefit.

What I’ll look to do eventually, is create specific free area guides, so that you can download these specific guides.

Anyway, as with anything I do, things will change, but the basic premise is that we all share our knowledge so we can all benefit is what is driving this.

I’ll be having it made look a lot neater as we progress, so it will change in terms of look and feel slightly. As you guys suggest improvements, or I notice things that need fixing, the improvements will progressively and continuously be rolled out.

So, check out the form and start adding your knowledge!
